Welcome letter

It is our great pleasure and privilege to announce that the 9th ISRPF is being organized in Kochi (Cochin), Kerala, India in 2011, August 9-14. India is the second largest producer of fish and has a vast network of government and private establishments engaged in both culture and capture fisheries. Teaching and research in fish biology and fisheries are a part of the academic curricula in Universities and colleges. It is befitting that India has been chosen as the venue of the 9th symposium by the International Advisory Committee, the second meeting of its kind in the Asian continent.

Cochin is one of the principal sea ports in the Western coast of India, a major city in the beautiful state of Kerala, and hailed as the Queen of Arabian Sea. An important spice trading center since the 14th century, Cochin is the commercial hub of Kerala and a growing centre of industry, international trade, fisheries products, and tourist destination and information technology. Portuguese have left indelible marks on the history and development of Cochin. The famous landmark of Cochin is a line of Chinese fishing nets seen at the mouth of the harbor. Other historical monuments includes St.Francis Church, Vasco House, Santa Cruz Basilica, Dutch Palace, Jewish Synagogue, Bolghatty Palace, etc.

The venue of the symposium Lulu International Convention Center and Garden Hotels, is close to the Cochin International  Airport located in a sprawling scenic campus in the neighboring district of Thrissur, the cultural capital of Kerala and a tourist destination. The National Organizing Committee of the 9th ISRPF welcomes you to Cochin and invites to actively participate in the 9th International Symposium on Reproductive Physiology of Fish.
